September 13 - the day John Barry died in 1803, has been officially declared John Barry Day by both Presidents Reagan and Clinton.
This year, Richard Somers Day is also being celebrated on Sunday, September 13th.
Although Somers was born September 15, 1776, during the Revolution, the New Jersey Assembly officially declared the day he died September 4 (1804) Richard Somers Day.
But since that day usually falls during the Labor Day week, when school is out and people are still on vacation, it was decided to hold the Richard Somers Day festivities this year on Sunday, September 13, which just so happens to be John Barry Day.
